Air Fryer Grilled Cheese (Printable)

Crisp, golden-brown grilled cheese using an air fryer for even browning and melted cheese.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Bread

01 - 4 slices white or whole wheat sandwich bread

→ Cheese

02 - 4 slices cheddar cheese or preferred melting cheese

→ Spread

03 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

# Directions:

01 - Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (180°C) for 3 minutes.
02 - Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
03 - Place two slices of bread buttered side down on a clean surface and top each with two slices of cheese. Cover with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
04 - Place sandwiches in the air fryer basket without overlapping.
05 - Cook for 4 minutes at 350°F (180°C).
06 - Carefully flip sandwiches and air fry for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
07 - Remove sandwiches from the air fryer, let cool slightly, slice, and serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The air fryer creates that restaurant style crunch without all the mess of stovetop butter splattering everywhere
  • You can make two sandwiches at once which means no more taking orders for who gets the first one
  • The cheese melts evenly so you never get that disappointing bite with cold spots
02 -
  • Cheese will drip through the basket rack so always put a piece of parchment paper or foil underneath to save yourself cleanup time
  • Every air fryer heats differently so check your first batch at the 3 minute mark and adjust from there
03 -
  • If your cheese is not melting completely try lowering the temperature to 325°F and cooking for a minute longer
  • Preheating the air fryer makes a bigger difference than most people realize so do not skip that step
